Tina, Investment Reporting Analyst
Physics, University of Cambridge

I studied Physics at university, and in the summer just after my third year I applied for an internship at Huguenots. I submitted my CV, was invited to an interview and started working about a week later. Near the end of my 10-week internship I was offered a permanent role in the Client Services team as an Investment Reporting Analyst.

Despite being a relatively junior member of the team I have been given plenty of responsibility, and regularly attend meetings and have telephone calls with our clients. The flat company structure means that you get meaningfully involved pretty quickly. My job partly involves understanding the requirements of our clients, and partly implementing the changes they request or setting up new projects. This requires strong problem-solving and logic skills, but there's also a more creative side to our work as well, with the day-to-day managing of the look and feel of the products we produce.

Everyone who works here is very friendly and welcoming, and I feel that I've been able to fit right in! We have regular social events that really help with getting to know one another, and there's always opportunities for people to suggest new activities to get involved in.

Rémy, Software Engineer
Mathematics, University of Cambridge

I started at Huguenots last September, having studied maths in my undergrad and systems biology in my masters. I’m a software engineer in the development team, working mostly on back-end development of our platform using Python and Django but also on various front-end projects. Recently I worked on a web tool using React - a framework new to the team - and we often try out different approaches for new projects. As it’s quite a small group of developers, we collaborate on pretty much everything and I’ve learnt a lot in quite a short space of time (having had little development experience before I arrived!). We’re a sociable, supportive group and are constantly helping each other improve our code and technical knowledge.

Max, Front-end Developer
French and Linguistics, University of Oxford

Slightly unsure as to where a modern languages student was supposed to work after university, I came to Huguenots and felt immediately at home. Nearly 2 years on, the team’s quirkiness and sheer talent have made the decision to stay an easy one.

I started out on the Client Services side, where I got to grips with our platform. This ranged from handling day-to-day client requests to building out brand new websites using our CMS, and soon gave me the confidence to lead projects myself.

After taking a keener interest in all things web, I recently decided to apply my client knowledge to new challenges as a front-end developer. The path to change teams was clearly outlined to me and everyone was really accommodating. My main focus now is learning as much as possible in this new role – namely honing my SCSS and jQuery skills.
